INSTRUCTORS

Another great thing about the Texas Jiu Jitsu club is that you will have the opportunity to get high quality instruction with experienced trainers. In the previous semesters, we  we have had both Mike Harmon and Mark Peltier lead classes. Mike Harmon, however, has taken a leave of absence this year to move back to his home town of Boston. He plans to return to UT next fall and will be missed dearly until his return. This upcoming fall, however, we will have Mark who has years of experience, leading and teaching the classes. Our members do have to pay dues every semester but the amount is less than one month’s worth of membership at any of the Austin BJJ or Austin MMA gyms.

Mark Peltier

Mark has been training under Carlos Machado Black Belt Roberto Kaelin in Keller, Texas since April 2007 and still continues to do so as often as he can. On May 29th, 2010, he was promoted to the rank of brown belt by his friend and mentor, Roberto. Mark considers himself a true student of BJJ and has trained with numerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts including: William Vandry, Darrin Lillian, Jeff Rockwell, Roman Kilgore, Tony Passos, Ricardo “Franjinha” Miller, Robert Drysdale, and Marcelo Garcia. He has helped in teaching at the club for the past two years and also has taught fundamental and advanced classes in and out of Texas. He has had the opportunity to compete against former multiple-time world champions and has gained a wealth of experience from doing so. Some of Mark’s tournament accomplishments are below. Mark has been and active member and officer of Texas Jiu-Jitsu since 2007. While he is in Austin, he splits his time between school and training both on campus and at a local BJJ school.
